Kaituko, who currently serves as Chargé d’Affaires ad interim at the Kenya High Commission in Ottawa, was ranked in 1st Position as High Commissioner of Kenya to Canada, in an award issued by Swiss Poll International Ltd.

The certificate, signed by the organization’s Director Benson Wochira, states that the award is “In recognition of your outstanding performance as the High Commissioner of Kenya to Canada.”

The recognition is being seen by diplomatic observers and members of the Kenyan diaspora as an affirmation of Kenya’s renewed focus on economic diplomacy, diaspora engagement, and results-oriented foreign service.

From Turkana to Ottawa: A steady rise

For many who have followed Amb. Kaituko’s public service career, the recognition is not entirely surprising. His trajectory has been defined by steady administrative experience and a deep understanding of both devolved and national government.

Born in Turkana County, Amb. Kaituko first came to national prominence as the first Speaker of the Turkana County Assembly between 2013 and 2017, where he helped establish the legislative framework for one of Kenya’s largest and most complex frontier counties.

He later joined the National Government, serving as Principal Secretary in the State Department for Labour and Skills Development, and later in the State Department for Shipping and Maritime Affairs between 2022 and 2025. In both dockets, he was involved in key policy reforms – including the operationalization of the National Skills Development Policy and the push to position Kenya as a regional maritime hub.

In late 2025, he was posted to Ottawa as Deputy Head of Mission at the Kenya High Commission. On July 3, 2026, the High Commission officially announced that Amb. Kaituko had assumed the functions of Chargé d’Affaires ad interim following the conclusion of tenure by H.E. Amb. Carolyne Kamende Daudi.

“The High Commission of the Republic of Kenya in Ottawa is pleased to announce that the Deputy Head of Mission, H.E. Ambassador Geoffrey E. Kaituko, CBS, has assumed the functions of Chargé d’Affaires ad interim,” the Mission said in a statement at the time.

He now leads a mission that serves more than 13,000 Kenyans living across Canada, with a mandate to advance Kenya’s foreign policy pillars of economic, diaspora, peace and environmental diplomacy.

What earned him the recognition?

While the methodology of the Swiss Poll International ranking has not been publicly detailed, the award comes at a time when the Kenya High Commission in Canada has significantly scaled up its public and economic diplomacy activities.

Under Amb. Kaituko’s interim leadership, the Mission has prioritized four key areas:

Labour mobility and skills: Leveraging his background as former Labour PS, Amb. Kaituko has been championing safe and structured labour mobility pathways for Kenyans to Canada. This includes engagements on the Seasonal Agricultural Worker Programs, Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) partnerships, and credential recognition for Kenyan professionals.

Trade and Investment: The High Commission has stepped up investor roundtables in Toronto, Ottawa and Vancouver, targeting Canadian investors in agri-technology, clean energy, mining and infrastructure. Kenya is positioning itself as a gateway for Canadian firms seeking to access the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

Diaspora service delivery: The Mission has decentralized consular services, organizing mobile consular camps and virtual outreach forums to reach Kenyans in distant provinces such as Alberta, Manitoba and Nova Scotia. Issues of passport processing, dual citizenship and diaspora investment have been at the centre of these forums.

Bilateral engagement: Ottawa and Nairobi enjoy cordial relations dating back to 1964. The two countries collaborate closely within the Commonwealth, on climate action, peacekeeping and women, peace and security. Canada has been a key partner in supporting Kenya’s education, health and refugee programmes, particularly in Turkana and Garissa.

Amb. Kaituko, who holds the national honour of Chief of the Order of the Burning Spear (CBS), has been keen to project Kenya not just as an aid recipient but as a strategic partner in technology, green growth and regional stability.

Kenya-Canada ties at a glance

Kenya-Canada bilateral trade stood at approximately KSh 12.5 billion in 2024, with Kenya exporting tea, coffee, textiles, cut flowers and titanium ore, while importing aerospace parts, machinery, lentils and educational services. Canada hosts over 3,000 Kenyan students in its universities.

Canada was also among the first countries to support Kenya’s Nairobi Rivers restoration agenda and has been involved in geothermal capacity building in the Rift Valley through partnerships between KenGen and Canadian institutions.

The recognition of Amb. Kaituko is therefore timely, as President William Ruto’s administration pushes for commercialization of diplomacy, where every Kenyan mission abroad is expected to deliver measurable economic returns.

Reaction

Messages of congratulations have poured in from the Kenyan diaspora in Canada, with community leaders in Toronto and Ottawa describing the award as “well-deserved” and a “proud moment for Kenya’s diplomatic service.”

“Representing Kenya on the global stage with excellence requires patience, professionalism and patriotism. Amb. Kaituko has demonstrated all three,” said one diaspora leader in Toronto.

Foreign Affairs officials in Nairobi have also noted that such recognition boosts morale within the diplomatic corps and encourages a performance-based culture.

As Kenya prepares to appoint a substantive High Commissioner to Canada, Amb. Kaituko’s performance as interim head of mission sets a high bar for service delivery, accountability and visibility.

For now, the focus remains on consolidating gains made and ensuring that the momentum in Kenya-Canada relations is sustained.

From the newsroom, we join Kenyans at home and abroad in congratulating Amb. Geoffrey E. Kaituko on this milestone.

Hongera Balozi!

KENYAN ENVOY IN CANADA RECOGNIZED FOR OUTSTANDING DIPLOMATIC PERFORMANCE Kenya’s diplomatic footprint in North America…

[22

post-10268","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-international
["GET
