BEIJING, Nov. 5 (Xinhua) — The World Media Summit provides an important platform for media organizations worldwide to deepen dialogue and pursue practical cooperation, a senior media official told Xinhua.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mohammed Alyami, director general of the Union of News Agencies of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), expressed hope that the seventh summit would further build consensus and encourage concrete steps to jointly address the opportunities and challenges brought by AI-driven transformation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since its launch in 2009, the summit has become an important platform for dialogue and cooperation among media organizations worldwide, evolving from a forum for exchanging views into a mechanism for discussing major changes in the media industry and exploring its future, Alyami said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It has become increasingly important as political, technological and social changes accelerate worldwide and the media face challenges related to credibility, the spread of misinformation and the rapid development of artificial intelligence, he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“For media organizations in OIC member states and the Global South, the summit’s greatest value lies in providing opportunities to present their perspectives and experiences, fostering professional partnerships based on exchanges of journalistic practice and experience, and strengthening their participation in global media discussions,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He praised Xinhua for co-hosting the summit and promoting its development, noting that the summit’s growing international participation over the years reflects Xinhua’s efforts to build an international platform for dialogue and cooperation among media organizations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Drawing on its experience and institutional influence, Xinhua has created opportunities for participants to exchange views and share practices, facilitating communication among news agencies and media organizations in the Global South, he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The seventh edition of the summit is being held in Beijing from Nov. 5 to 9 under the theme “Media in the Intelligent Age: From Consensus to Action.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We look forward to the seventh summit deepening dialogue on the future of the media and creating new opportunities for practical cooperation among participants, particularly in digital transformation, artificial intelligence, content exchange and capacity building,” he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Discussing the impact of AI on the media industry, Alyami said the question today is no longer whether the media should use AI, but how to use it responsibly, professionally and ethically.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

AI offers media organizations significant opportunities in data analysis, translation, verification, content production, and reaching audiences more efficiently, he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, he added, its use raises concerns over the spread of misinformation, the authenticity of AI-generated content, intellectual property protection, data privacy and the need to uphold professional journalistic standards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He stressed the need for news agencies and media organizations to strengthen cooperation to develop principles and standards for the responsible use of AI, while sharing experience and technologies for verifying information and combating misinformation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“International platforms such as the summit can play an important role in building this consensus, enabling us to move beyond simply keeping pace with technological developments and toward jointly shaping the future of the media in the age of AI,” Alyami said. \u25a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
