The State Department for Gender has launched a spirited campaign to mark the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, an annual global event aimed at raising awareness and fostering action to end violence against women and girls. This year\u2019s campaign, led by Principal Secretary Hon. Ann Wangombe, calls for urgent and collective efforts to address the root causes of gender-based violence (GBV) and ensure safer communities for all.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Speaking at the event’s launch, Hon. Wangombe reiterated the government\u2019s zero-tolerance stance on violence, particularly against women and children. \u201cThis violence must end. The killings must come to an end. We oppose any form of violence against women, and we will not relent in our efforts to create a society free from fear, intimidation, and harm,\u201d she declared.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The campaign underscores the devastating impact of GBV on individuals, families, and communities. It seeks to unite stakeholders, including community leaders, civil society organizations, and policymakers, to champion justice, accountability, and support for survivors. Hon. Wangombe emphasized the importance of preventive measures, stronger legal frameworks, and the empowerment of women to combat GBV effectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The 16-day period will feature various activities, including public forums, educational workshops, and art performances, to shed light on the issue. The campaign will also amplify survivor stories, fostering a culture of empathy and resilience. \u201cThis is not just a government effort; it is a call to every Kenyan to stand against violence in all its forms,\u201d Hon. Wangombe added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
As the campaign unfolds, the State Department for Gender appeals to all Kenyans to be vigilant, report cases of abuse, and support survivors in their healing journeys. The initiative reaffirms the nation\u2019s commitment to promoting gender equality and safeguarding the dignity and rights of all its citizens.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
