A delegation from the *State Department for Labour and Skills Development, led by *Principal Secretary Shadrack Mwadime, is touring Canadian provinces to secure employment opportunities and establish formal migration pathways.

In New Brunswick, the delegation held high-level discussions with experts and government leaders across education, healthcare, and both skilled and semi-skilled professions. A key highlight was the proposal to establish a *New Brunswick school in Nairobi, envisioned as a bridge to facilitate labour migration and expand access to employment opportunities in Canada. Exchange programs between Kenyan and Canadian learning institutions are also under consideration, with a delegation from New Brunswick expected to visit Nairobi in *mid-October 2025 to advance these discussions.

Speaking during the engagements, PS Mwadime emphasized the importance of formal partnerships to safeguard Kenyan workers:
“We need to establish partnership and, if possible, sign a memorandum of understanding in line with Canadian legal frameworks. This will assure our young people that they are migrating to a country where their future is guaranteed. That’s the reason why we are here,” he stated.

On his part, Assistant Deputy Minister Dany Couillard welcomed the initiative, noting the shared commitment to safe migration:
“I think we are very much aligned. Part of my job is to find people, and while many countries say they have people available, few propose formal agreements. We are very open to that.
