Leshau Pondo MCA Kamau Gathungu Welcomes Coffee Farming as Nyandarua Expands Agribusiness Frontier<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Hon. MCA for Leshau Pondo Ward in Nyandarua County, Kamau Gathungu, has warmly welcomed a transformative milestone in the county\u2019s agricultural journey following the official launch of coffee farming.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking during the event, Hon. Gathungu expressed his delight at witnessing what he described as \u201cthe opening of a new chapter\u201d in Nyandarua\u2019s agribusiness sector. The introduction of coffee farming marks a significant step in the county\u2019s ongoing crop diversification program, which already features high-value crops such as pyrethrum, avocado, and apples.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis initiative is a game changer for our farmers,\u201d he noted. \u201cBy embracing coffee farming, we are not only expanding our agricultural base but also creating sustainable income streams that will shield our farmers from over-reliance on seasonal crops.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The launch event, held in Ndogino, Leshau Pondo Ward, was graced by the Principal Secretary for Co-operatives and Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) Development, Patrick Kilemi. The PS underscored the national government\u2019s commitment to empowering farmers through strategic partnerships aimed at boosting productivity and enhancing value chains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Through this collaboration, over 500,000 coffee seedlings are set to be distributed to farmers in the first phase of the program. This large-scale rollout is expected to significantly increase household incomes while positioning Nyandarua as an emerging player in Kenya\u2019s renowned coffee industry.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hon. Gathungu emphasized that the initiative aligns with broader efforts to modernize agriculture in the region. \u201cWe are building resilience among our farmers by introducing crops that have strong market value locally and internationally. Coffee farming offers long-term economic benefits and supports value addition opportunities,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He also took the opportunity to thank the Nyandarua County leadership, particularly the Governor His Excellency Dr. Kiarie Badilisha, for selecting Leshau Pondo Ward as the host of the landmark event. Hon. Gathungu noted that hosting the launch was not only an honour but also a strong signal of the county\u2019s commitment to inclusive development across all wards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event also brought together key local leaders, including Ndaragwa Central Ward MCA Mwangi Kagwe, and specially elected MCA Sasha Wamae, all of whom expressed their support for the initiative and pledged to work closely with farmers to ensure its success.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Leaders present lauded the partnership between the county and national government, noting that such collaborations are crucial in driving rural development and economic transformation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As Nyandarua continues to diversify its agricultural portfolio, the introduction of coffee farming stands as a beacon of hope for farmers seeking stable and profitable ventures. With strong leadership and strategic investment, the county is poised to reap the benefits of this bold step into high-value agribusiness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
