ENG. MILLICENT ALOOH HSC HAILS WOMEN’S GROWING IMPACT IN BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eng. Millicent Alooh, HSC, a highly accomplished Biomedical Engineer with over 15 years of experience and international recognition in the field, has hailed the growing contribution of women in biomedical engineering, describing them as critical drivers of innovation, technological advancement, and healthcare transformation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Speaking during the Women in Biomedical Engineering Day 2026 celebrations, Eng. Alooh underscored the importance of empowering more women to pursue careers in engineering and healthcare technology, noting that their expertise is helping to strengthen health systems and improve patient outcomes across the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event, held under the theme “Engineering Intelligence,”<\/em> brought together more than 200 participants, including biomedical engineers, healthcare professionals, policymakers, researchers, students, industry leaders, development partners, and government representatives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eng. Alooh is the Founder of Women in Biomedical Engineering Kenya (WiBEK), Co-Founder of the African Women in Biomedical Engineering Association (AWIBEA), and Honorary Secretary General of the Association of Medical Engineering of Kenya (AMEK). Through these leadership roles, she has been instrumental in advancing professional excellence, mentorship, and gender inclusion within the biomedical engineering profession.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to Eng. Alooh, the celebration was not only an opportunity to recognize the remarkable achievements of women in the profession but also a platform to inspire future generations of innovators and leaders in healthcare technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“We are celebrating women who continue to break barriers, challenge stereotypes, and make meaningful contributions to healthcare through engineering, innovation, and leadership. Their work is helping shape the future of healthcare and improving lives every day,” she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event was graced by Dr. Caroh Asin, representing the Principal Secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards, who conveyed the Government’s commitment to advancing engineering, innovation, and gender inclusion within the healthcare sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Also present was Dr. Chege Macharia, Executive Director of AIC Kijabe Mission Hospital, who delivered a keynote address highlighting the growing role of biomedical engineering in improving healthcare service delivery and strengthening medical infrastructure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eng. Alooh commended the support of stakeholders from government, academia, industry, and development organizations, noting that collaboration remains essential in advancing innovation and creating opportunities for women in STEM fields.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

She further emphasized the need to increase the visibility, leadership, and professional growth of women in biomedical engineering, saying greater inclusion would contribute significantly to the development of resilient and technology-driven healthcare systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The successful celebration concluded with a renewed commitment by participants and partners to champion gender equity, innovation, and excellence in biomedical engineering while inspiring the next generation of women leaders in healthcare technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As a pioneering biomedical engineer and advocate for women in STEM, Eng. Alooh continues to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of healthcare engineering in Kenya, Africa, and beyond through mentorship, professional development, and the promotion of innovation-driven healthcare solutions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
