The Kenya Chamber of Mines (KCM) has called for calm and constructive dialogue between Shanta Gold, artisanal miners, and local authorities in Kakamega and Vihiga counties.

In a statement released on Thursday, KCM emphasized the need for all stakeholders to adhere to the law and respect the rights of licensed mineral right holders, while also acknowledging the important role of artisanal miners in the region.

“Lawful coexistence requires predictable regulatory processes, transparent community engagement, and adherence to environmental, safety, and operational standards,” said KCM.

The chamber is urging stakeholders to work together under the leadership of the State Department for Mining and County Governments to address concerns around access, safety, and sustainable community participation.

KCM stands ready to facilitate dialogue and provide technical support to promote a peaceful and beneficial mining ecosystem in the two counties.
