ONLINE REPORTING TOOL TO STRENGTHEN NATIONAL GBV PREVENTION AND RESPONSE EFFORTS
A digital safe space and online reporting tool currently under development by the State Department for Gender Affairs and Affirmative Action, with support from the ICT Authority, is set to address critical data gaps in the prevention and response to Gender-Based Violence (GBV) across Kenya.
While reviewing progress on the system, the Principal Secretary for Gender Affairs and Affirmative Action, Ms. Anne Wang’ombe, hailed the initiative as a landmark intervention that will significantly strengthen national efforts to combat GBV. She noted that the platform will enable accurate reporting, analysis, and management of GBV data, laying the foundation for evidence-based interventions and lasting impact.
Beyond data capture and storage, the digital tool will provide an integrated and survivor-centred platform, enabling users—including survivors of GBV—to safely access support services through established referral pathways. This approach is expected to enhance timely response, recovery, and healing.
The development of the online reporting tool and digital safe space fulfills the State Department’s mandate to coordinate national GBV prevention and response mechanisms, while leveraging technology to improve accessibility, confidentiality, and accountability.
The session was attended by Gender Secretary Dr. Josephine Obonyo, Director for GBV Mitigation Michael Kariuki, and GBV Prevention and Response Programme Director Phoebe Makhungu, underscoring strong institutional collaboration in the fight against GBV.
Beyond her leadership, stakeholders expressed genuine appreciation for PS Anne Wang’ombe, describing her as a kind, approachable, and deeply committed public servant whose warmth and dedication continue to inspire confidence and momentum in the national GBV prevention agenda.
The State Department reaffirmed its commitment to leveraging innovation, partnerships, and compassionate leadership to ensure a safer and more just society for all.
