Rarieda MP Commissions New Classrooms, Breaks Ground for KSh74m Dormitory as Development Gains Accelerate

Siaya County — Rarieda Constituency continues to register notable development milestones under the leadership of Hon. Dr. Otiende Amollo, SC, EBS, CBS, with sustained investments in education, housing, and infrastructure transforming lives across the constituency.On Tuesday, the MP, accompanied by members of the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) Committee, commissioned newly constructed classrooms at Mituri and Ujwang’a Primary and Junior Schools. The new facilities are expected to ease congestion and support smooth grade transitions in line with the Competency-Based Curriculum.The commissioning forms part of a broader education infrastructure programme that has seen the construction of modern classrooms, libraries, and multi-purpose halls in several institutions, including Oboch Mixed Secondary School and Gagra Primary School. In 2025, Hon. Dr. Otiende further strengthened academic excellence by hosting the first-ever Rarieda Constituency Education Day, an initiative that recognises and rewards top-performing students.In the spirit of servant leadership and partnership-driven development, the MP also participated in the groundbreaking ceremony for a KSh74 million ultra-modern dormitory at Ramba High School, a project being supported by the M-Pesa Foundation and scheduled for completion within 10 months. The ceremony was conducted alongside Dr. Henry Kilonzo of the M-Pesa Foundation, highlighting the importance of collaboration between public leaders and development partners in improving learning environments.Beyond education, Hon. Dr. Otiende has championed transformative social and infrastructure initiatives. His flagship Ondoa Nyasi Initiative has replaced grass-thatched huts for widows and vulnerable families with iron-sheet roofed houses, restoring dignity and improving living standards.On infrastructure, the MP has influenced the construction and upgrading of key local roads, including the Ajigo Junction–Rambugu–Lwak road, while also supporting the reinforcement of river dykes to protect communities from recurrent flooding.Owing to his legislative performance and constituency development record, Hon. Dr. Otiende has consistently been ranked among Kenya’s best-performing Members of Parliament by independent pollsters.Residents and local leaders have lauded the ongoing projects, citing improved access to education, safer housing, and enhanced connectivity as clear indicators of steady progress in Rarieda.Education, the MP has reiterated, remains central to his long-term vision of empowering communities and securing sustainable development for the constituency.
