Kenya Climbs Five Places in Global Passport Ranking

NAIROBI, 15 January 2026 – Kenya has climbed five places in the 2026 Henley Passport Index, moving to 68th globally, reflecting the country’s strengthened diplomacy and growing global influence.

Tourism Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano, EGH, described the rise as “more than a statistic; it is a testament to Kenya’s improved global standing and the strength of the Magical Kenya brand.”

“This improved ranking not only makes travel easier for Kenyans but also positions our country as a stable and welcoming destination for international visitors,” CS Miano added.

The rise follows President William Ruto’s mid-2025 decision to abolish visa requirements for African nations, a move that has enhanced regional mobility. Efforts are ongoing to secure reciprocal travel agreements to boost tourism further.

Kenya has also seen a surge in cruise tourism, with arrivals of vessels such as the Azamara Journey and MV Europa, strengthening the country’s position as a hub in the Indian Ocean.

The Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife says it will leverage this global recognition to attract investment into conservancies, protect Kenya’s heritage, and ensure every citizen benefits from the nation’s identity.

Kenya continues its journey toward 5 million annual visitors by 2027, reinforcing its status as the Origin of Wonder.
