By CHURCHILL SIMIYU, REPORTER.

Nairobi Kenya — February 2, 2026.

The Corner Tribe Council of Elders has issued a formal and unreserved apology following controversial public remarks made by one of its members, Mr. Mohamed Kahiye Osman, that targeted senior leaders from Northern Kenya and a prominent local businessman.

In a statement dated February 2, 2026, and released through the Office of the Sultan, who serves as the Council’s chairman, the elders distanced themselves from the remarks, describing them as “unfortunate, unacceptable, and contrary” to the values, traditions and cultural principles of the Corner Tribe of Mandera County.

The apology was addressed to Cabinet Secretary Hon. Adan Bare Duale, former legislator Hon. Farah Maalim, other distinguished leaders from the region, and businessman Mr. Abdiwali, the owner of BBS Mall. The Council emphasized that the statements did not represent the collective position or beliefs of the Corner Tribe community.

“As the traditional leadership of the Corner Tribe, we categorically state that these remarks do not represent our values of respect, unity, peaceful coexistence, wisdom, and honor for leadership,” the statement said.

The elders expressed deep regret for any offense, discomfort or misunderstanding caused by the remarks and assured the public that the issue had been treated with the seriousness it deserved.

They revealed that internal measures had already been initiated to ensure accountability, discipline and guidance within the community to prevent similar incidents in the future.

According to the Council, Mr. Mohamed Kahiye Osman has acknowledged his wrongdoing, expressed deep remorse and indicated his readiness to issue a personal public apology to those affected.

The Council also extended special appreciation to Rer Haji Bullow for what it described as a constructive and instrumental role in mediating the matter and guiding it toward a peaceful and respectful resolution.

Reaffirming its broader mission, the Corner Tribe Council of Elders pledged continued support for leaders and stakeholders working to promote peace, unity and sustainable development in Northern Kenya and across the country.
