Dr. Mamo B. Mamo: The Visionary Environmental Steward Driving Kenya’s Green Transformation

Kilifi Deputy Governor Flora Mbetsa Chibule on Tuesday hosted a delegation from the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA), led by Director General Dr. Mamo B. Mamo and Chairperson Emilio N. Mugo, during a courtesy visit ahead of the World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought.

The visit highlighted the outstanding leadership of Dr. Mamo, whose commitment to environmental conservation, climate resilience, and sustainable development continues to shape Kenya’s green future. Through his stewardship, NEMA has strengthened partnerships with county governments, empowering communities to embrace practical climate action initiatives that protect ecosystems and improve livelihoods.

The global commemoration, set to take place at Vipingo Central Primary School under the theme “Rangelands: Recognize, Respect, Restore,” will spotlight the critical role of rangelands in food and water security, biodiversity conservation, and the preservation of pastoralist and indigenous communities’ cultural heritage.

In collaboration with NEMA, the Kilifi County Government has already undertaken impactful environmental initiatives, including tree-planting exercises and the distribution of water tanks to schools and communities across Ganze, Magarini, Kaloleni, and Kilifi South sub-counties. These efforts reflect the transformative leadership of Dr. Mamo and NEMA in advancing sustainable environmental management and building resilience against the effects of climate change.
