Kalonzo Questions Absence of IG Kanja and NIS DG Haji in High-Stakes Court Case

On Wednesday Senior Counsel Kalonzo Musyoka attended a session at the Milimani High Court in Nairobi as an interested party representing the People of Kenya.

This followed revelations that the Inspector General of the National Police Service (NPS), Douglas Kanja, would not honor court summons issued on December 31, 2024, requiring his appearance before Justice Bahati. IG Kanja cited being engaged in a meeting of national importance as the reason for his absence. However, Dr. Musyoka dismissed the explanation, stating, “We are not at war, so where are Inspector General of the National Police Service Douglas Kanja and National Intelligence Service Director General Noordin Haji? This is a matter of grave importance.”

Dr. Musyoka, who also serves as the Party Leader of the Wiper Democratic Movement (WDM), was accompanied in court by prominent legal minds, including Senior Counsel Martha Karua, Eugene Wamalwa, Senator Okiya Omtatah, and lawyer Ndegwa Njiru.

Justice Bahati adjourned the case to Monday, January 27, and directed that both IG Kanja and DG Haji must appear in person.

Following the court proceedings, the People’s Loyal Opposition Team held a press briefing. They expressed deep concern over the rising cases of enforced abductions and accused senior Kenya Kwanza leaders, including President William Ruto, Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah, and COTU Secretary General Francis Atwoli, of arrogance and chest-thumping during a recent political rally in Bungoma over the weekend.
