The Kenya Plant Health Inspectorate Service (KEPHIS) has once again demonstrated its leadership in agricultural regulation and innovation by securing four prestigious awards at the Mombasa Agricultural Society of Kenya (ASK) Show 2025. The awards were presented by President William Samoei Ruto and proudly received by the KEPHIS Board Chair, Hon. Joseph M’Eruaki.
Among the accolades were Best Agricultural Based Organization that Ensures Safety Information in Agricultural Products, Best Government Stand Interpreting the Current Show Theme, Best Innovation and Invention Stand, and Best Local Stand in Strategies of International Trade and Exports.
Speaking after receiving the honors, Chairman Joseph M’Eruaki praised the KEPHIS team for their commitment and dedication in protecting farmers and strengthening Kenya’s agricultural systems. He noted that the recognition was a testament to the agency’s tireless efforts in seed certification, laboratory analysis, phytosanitary safeguards, and port inspections that ensure agricultural products meet both local and international standards.
“These awards confirm that KEPHIS remains steadfast in its mission to safeguard the integrity of agriculture in Kenya while supporting farmers to compete effectively in the global market,” M’Eruaki stated.
He further emphasized that KEPHIS’s innovations and strict quality assurance mechanisms have played a critical role in boosting Kenya’s food security, expanding export opportunities, and building confidence among trading partners. By ensuring that seeds are certified and that plant products meet safety requirements, the institution directly contributes to higher yields, improved farmer incomes, and the growth of agribusiness.
The recognition at the Mombasa Show also highlights the importance of continuous innovation in agriculture, with KEPHIS being applauded for its creative approaches to addressing challenges posed by pests, diseases, and changing market demands. The institution has been at the forefront of introducing new technologies and modern testing methods that safeguard the country’s food systems.
KEPHIS invited farmers, stakeholders, and members of the public to visit its stand at the Mkomani Showground during the exhibition week, running from September 3rd to 7th, 2025, to learn more about its services and interact with experts on matters of seed quality, plant health, and trade facilitation
