Kenya’s tourism sector has once again earned international recognition for its remarkable progress in embracing digital transformation, ranking 4th in Africa for tourism digitization during the 26th United Nations Tourism General Assembly held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

The recognition underscores Kenya’s unwavering commitment to integrating technology across the tourism value chain — a vision championed by the Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife, Rebecca Miano, EGH, whose exemplary leadership continues to position the country as a regional leader in tourism innovation and sustainability.

Through the Digital Superhighway initiative spearheaded by H.E. President Dr. William Ruto, Kenya has firmly established itself as a regional technology hub for Eastern Africa. The Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife, under CS Miano’s stewardship, has aligned this national vision with tourism development by strengthening collaborations with private-sector partners, academic institutions, and innovation hubs to drive sector-wide innovation.

“We are deliberately nurturing a digital innovation ecosystem that empowers young entrepreneurs to use technology creatively in advancing our tourism sector,” said CS Miano. “Innovation is key to unlocking a smart, inclusive, and sustainable tourism future for Kenya.”

CS Miano emphasized that emerging technologies such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) present transformative opportunities for the industry — from enhancing visitor mobility and experience within destinations to improving efficiency, data-driven decision-making, and sustainability practices.

Kenya also reaffirmed its commitment to international collaborations and partnerships that promote technology exchange, knowledge sharing, and inclusive growth within the global tourism community.

“Our recognition at the UN Tourism General Assembly is a testament to the great strides Kenya has made under the visionary leadership of CS Rebecca Miano, whose dedication to innovation, sustainability, and youth empowerment continues to inspire transformation across the sector,” read a statement from the Ministry.
