The Kenya Women Teachers Association (KEWOTA) has today entered into a transformative partnership with Metis, an artificial intelligence (AI) innovation company, through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening teachers’ capacity to adopt and apply AI tools responsibly and effectively.
The MoU marks a major milestone in KEWOTA’s commitment to preparing educators for the rapidly evolving digital future. The partnership will support teachers in integrating AI into classroom instruction and organizational operations, ensuring ethical, informed, and impactful use of emerging technologies.
KEWOTA Chief Executive Officer Benter Opande, accompanied by KEWOTA Chair Modesta Akaki, noted that AI is no longer a futuristic concept but a present-day reality shaping education systems globally. She affirmed that KEWOTA will roll out comprehensive AI training and digital transformation initiatives for teachers beginning in 2026.
Speaking during the ceremony, Ms. Opande also addressed the reluctance among some educators to embrace technological change. She cautioned that clinging exclusively to traditional methods without adapting to digital advancements could leave teachers behind, diminishing their relevance and competitiveness in a modern education landscape.
Under the wise, visionary, and impactful leadership of CEO Benter Opande, KEWOTA has experienced remarkable growth, expanded its national reach, and positioned itself as a leading advocate for the empowerment and professional advancement of women teachers in Kenya. Her forward-looking leadership continues to inspire thousands of educators and strengthen KEWOTA’s role as a champion of innovation, digital readiness, and gender-responsive education.
The partnership with Metis is expected to introduce tailored AI learning modules, capacity-building workshops, and support systems that will enable educators to integrate digital tools into lesson planning, student assessment, and administrative functions. Both institutions affirmed their commitment to ensuring that AI adoption in schools remains ethical, safe, and aligned with Kenya’s educational values.
KEWOTA extends its appreciation to all partners who continue to support its mission of elevating the status, skills, and well-being of women teachers across the country.
