Naivas Opens 113th Store in Athi River, Unveils Future-Facing Convenience Hub

ATHI RIVER, December 11, 2025 – In a strategic move underscoring its national expansion, Naivas Supermarket has officially opened its 113th branch at the Shell Athi River service station, creating a first-of-its-kind integrated convenience hub in one of Kenya’s fastest-growing economic corridors.

The launch, held on Thursday, saw the retailer partner with Vivo Energy Kenya, Pharma Plus, and electric mobility pioneer BasiGo to offer customers a seamless ecosystem where they can refuel, shop for groceries, access pharmacy services, and engage with sustainable transport solutions—all under one roof.

Speaking at the event, Naivas Chief Executive Officer, Andreas von Paleske, highlighted the strategic importance of the location. “Opening in Athi River aligns perfectly with our commitment to deepen convenience for our customers. This is one of Kenya’s fastest-growing urban corridors, and we are delighted to bring our signature fresh food, great prices, and exceptional service to this vibrant community,” he stated.

The new branch strengthens Naivas’ footprint amid a steadily growing retail sector, driven by a rising middle class, rapid urbanisation, and increasing consumer preference for convenience-led shopping formats.

Peter Murungi, Managing Director of Vivo Energy Kenya, emphasised the transformative vision behind the partnership. “Our collaboration with Naivas reflects our reimagined model of the modern service station—a destination where customers can refuel, shop, access essential services, and enjoy a seamless experience. The Athi River site brings this vision to life,” Murungi said.

The inclusion of Pharma Plus caters to the growing demand for accessible and trusted pharmaceutical services, while BasiGo’s electric bus charging and ticket point taps into the accelerating shift towards green mobility. The hub stands as a physical manifestation of key trends shaping Kenyan retail: the integration of health and wellness, technology-driven operations, and a growing emphasis on sustainability.

The Naivas outlet itself will stock a full range of groceries, fresh produce, household essentials, bakery items, and ready-to-eat meals, serving the families, commuters, and businesses in Athi River and its environs.

Industry analysts view the launch as a significant benchmark, illustrating how market leaders are evolving from standalone retail spaces into multipurpose destinations designed for the integrated needs of the modern Kenyan consumer.
