MELTA KENYA ASSOCIATION CALLS FOR COLLABORATION TO COMBAT COUNTERFEIT ALCOHOL AND DRUG ABUSE
Nairobi, 12th January 2026 – The Melta Kenya Association, under the leadership of Chairman Mr. Francis Mbogo, has reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with government authorities and industry stakeholders to curb the proliferation of counterfeit products and illegal alcohol, warning that the menace poses serious risks to consumer safety, public health, and the national economy.
The Association emphasized that effective collaboration is essential to ensure enforcement efforts target the real perpetrators of illegal trade, rather than punishing compliant and legitimate businesses operating within the law.
“As a responsible industry player, Melta Kenya Association believes that partnerships with government agencies are critical in promoting a fair, transparent, and well-regulated market,” Mr. Mbogo said, noting that industry insights can significantly enhance enforcement and policy formulation.
The Association also welcomed President William Ruto’s declaration of a national campaign against alcohol and drug abuse in 2026, describing it as a bold and timely intervention in addressing a growing public health challenge.
Mr. Mbogo reiterated the Association’s readiness to support the campaign by sharing industry intelligence, assisting enforcement initiatives, and strengthening measures to eliminate counterfeit products from the market.
“By working together, we can protect consumers, safeguard public health, support legitimate businesses, and reduce the significant economic losses caused by illicit trade,” he said.
