The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has set out plans to conduct repeat grassroots elections in selected polling centres across 42 counties .
This comes after deliberations by the party’s top decision making organs.
In a press briefing issued on Wednesday, UDA Secretary General Senator Hassan Omar Hassan said the party’s National Steering Committee met on Tuesday, January 20, 2026, under the chairmanship of Party Leader President William Ruto
The meeting reviewed reports from the National Elections Board and the Electoral and Nomination Dispute Resolution Committee on the recently concluded grassroots elections.
According to the party, the grassroots polls were conducted in three phases, with Phase II held in June 2025 and Phase III concluded in January 2026. However, following rulings by the dispute resolution committee and a subsequent decision by the National Executive Committee, UDA resolved to organise repeat elections in select polling centres.
The repeat elections for Phase III will be held on March 7, 2026, while those for Phase II are scheduled for March 28, 2026.
UDA also announced that registration for aspirants seeking various positions at the polling centre level has opened and will be conducted online through the party website. The party encouraged all interested members to register.
As part of the preparations, the party will convene a Special National Governing Council meeting on Monday, January 26, 2026, at 8.00 am at State House, Nairobi. The meeting will bring together all elected and nominated UDA leaders, including governors, deputy governors, senators, members of the National Assembly, women representatives, members of the East African Legislative Assembly and members of county assemblies. President Ruto will chair the meeting.
During the sitting, the council is expected to receive a scorecard on the implementation of the Bottom Up Economic Transformation Agenda, receive a report from the National Elections Board on the grassroots elections, and ratify a resolution by the National Executive Committee authorising the party leader to commence structured negotiations with the Orange Democratic Movement.
In a further move aimed at early preparations for the 2027 General Election, the party announced the establishment of a UDA Aspirants Forum. The forum is intended to organise and engage the growing number of party members seeking to vie for elective positions.
The party has opened a registration portal for aspirants with immediate effect, with the inaugural aspirants forum meeting scheduled for February 4, 2026, at 8.00 am at State House, Nairobi.
A formal notice will be issued ahead of the meeting.
