Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary Rebecca Miano has firmly positioned herself as one of the most results-driven figures in government, steering Kenya’s tourism sector to remarkable growth and renewed global prominence.

Her tenure has been defined by bold strategy, innovation, and a clear focus on outcomes, turning what was once a struggling sector into a thriving pillar of the economy. In just three years, international tourist arrivals have surged from 1.4 million to an impressive 2.5 million, a milestone that underscores the effectiveness of her leadership.

President William Ruto, speaking at State House Nairobi during the Maendeleo ya Wanawake event, singled out CS Miano for praise, attributing the sector’s resurgence to her deliberate and forward-looking approach.
He noted that the growth witnessed is not by chance, but a direct result of structured reforms, aggressive global marketing, and a reimagined vision for Kenya’s tourism industry.
At the heart of Miano’s success is a shift from traditional tourism models to a more diversified and sustainable framework.

She has championed the expansion of Kenya’s tourism offering beyond the usual safari and coastal experiences, encouraging counties to tap into cultural heritage, adventure tourism, and community-based initiatives.

This approach is not only broadening Kenya’s appeal on the global stage but also ensuring that tourism benefits reach grassroots communities across the country.

The impact of her leadership is evident in the numbers. Tourism earnings have climbed to an estimated Ksh 452 billion, while the sector now supports over 1.1 million direct jobs and approximately 3 million indirect livelihoods. These gains have reinforced tourism as a key driver of economic growth and job creation.

Looking ahead, CS Miano has set her sights even higher. Her Vision 2026 roadmap targets 5 million international visitors annually, anchored on sustainability, innovation, and resilience. The plan integrates technology, including the use of artificial intelligence in crisis management, while advancing a transition toward renewable energy within the sector.

Through her stewardship, Kenya is steadily redefining its position in the global tourism landscape, emerging not just as a destination of natural beauty, but as a leader in sustainable and regenerative tourism.
As momentum continues to build, Rebecca Miano’s leadership stands out as a clear example of how strategic direction, consistency, and execution can transform a critical sector and deliver tangible benefits to millions of Kenyans.
