Kenya’s Retail Giant Naivas Launches Campaign to Boost Local Supply Chains, Community Growth

Kenyan retail giant Naivas Supermarkets has unveiled a major nation-wide campaign, “Naivas Ni Kwetu,” aimed at deepening community engagement and expanding support for local supply chains and small enterprises.

The initiatives, launched on Saturday at Greenspan Mall in Nairobi, commemorate the supermarket chain’s 36-year growth trajectory in East Africa’s largest economy. The campaign emphasizes the retailer’s role in driving local economic development by fostering stronger linkages between small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), agricultural producers, and millions of urban households.

With a branch network exceeding 110 stores nationwide, Naivas has evolved into a key pillar of Kenya’s modern distribution network. Company executives underscored that every item listed on store shelves reflects a broader collaborative effort involving domestic farmers, manufacturers, artisans, and logistics distributors.

Speaking during the official launch, Naivas Chief Commercial Officer Jorsen Patten highlighted the strategic importance of expanding domestic supply chain networks to sustain economic momentum.

“Naivas Ni Kwetu reflects the heart of our business,” Patten said. “It is a celebration of the people who have built this company together—our customers, employees, farmers, suppliers, and communities. For 36 years, Naivas has grown alongside Kenya, and this campaign is our commitment to continue serving Kenyan families while strengthening the partnerships that make this journey possible.”

The launch event featured a Supplier Showcase alongside community activities, designed to recognize the pivotal contribution of domestic suppliers and local agricultural vendors to the modern retail ecosystem. Retail market observers note that integrating smallholder farmers and local entrepreneurs into organized commercial channels remains critical for industrial development, employment generation, and food security in regional markets.

Looking ahead, the company reiterated its intention to scale up investments in Kenya’s retail infrastructure, support local manufacturers, and expand direct market access for local business owners. By enhancing regional commercial integration and strengthening micro-level trade networks, the retail chain aims to contribute steadily to sustainable economic growth across urban and rural communities nationwide
