Super Senator Veronica Maina Turns Faith Into Action With New Home for Shosho Prisci

Super Senator Veronica Maina has once again demonstrated that leadership is most meaningful when it touches the lives of ordinary citizens, transforming compassion and faith into a tangible act of dignity for an elderly woman in Kiharu Constituency.

Vero (as she is fondly known) is the incoming Murang’a Woman Representative 2027, she was filled with joy as she joined residents of Township Ward for the dedication of a new home built for Shosho Prisci, an elderly grandmother who had been living in extremely difficult conditions.

For years, Grandma Prisci’s small house had been in a dilapidated state, with a leaking roof that left her vulnerable whenever the rains came. The situation was so difficult that she would at times find herself sleeping on a wet mattress after rainwater found its way into her house.

It was a situation that could easily have been overlooked, but the Veronica Maina Foundation stepped in to restore not only her shelter, but also her dignity, comfort and hope.

The Foundation took up the challenge of constructing a safer and more dignified home for Shosho Prisci, turning what began as a simple act of compassion into a remarkable demonstration of community-centred leadership.

For Senator Maina, the journey from the foundation of the house to its completion was also a journey of faith.

She attributed the successful completion of the project to God, expressing gratitude for the support received throughout the construction process.

The completion of the house culminated in a special dedication ceremony attended by religious leaders, community members and guests who came together to celebrate the blessing of a new beginning for Shosho Prisci.

A dedication Mass was led by Father Bernard of St Joseph the Worker Mumbi Catholic Church, marking the completion of the home and giving spiritual significance to the transformation.

The occasion was deeply rooted in the Christian call to care for the vulnerable, with Senator Maina drawing inspiration from the words of Jesus in Matthew 25:35–36, which call on believers to feed the hungry, welcome strangers, clothe those in need and care for the vulnerable.

The message was reinforced by Reverend Simon Muiruri and Reverend Hiram of St James ACK Church, Murang’a, who shared words of encouragement and reflected on the importance of compassion, service and faith.

The presence of religious leaders from different denominations further underscored the unifying nature of the initiative and the shared responsibility of society to protect the dignity of vulnerable members of the community.

The event was also attended by Senator Essy Okenyuri and Gatanga Constituency aspirant Ms Helen Kigia.

Senator Maina expressed particular appreciation to Senator Okenyuri for her support towards one of the entrepreneurs in Murang’a, highlighting the importance of leaders working together to empower local communities and individuals.

Beyond the walls of the newly constructed house, the project represents a powerful reminder of what community leadership can achieve when compassion is accompanied by action.

Senator Maina’s intervention has given Shosho Prisci more than a new roof. It has provided her with a secure place to call home, protection from the elements and renewed dignity in her later years.

The Veronica Maina Foundation continues to provide a platform through which the senator’s commitment to social responsibility and community welfare can translate into practical interventions.
