The Kenya Institute of Special Education (KISE) Disability Inclusion Conference 2026 kicked off Tuesday in Nairobi, gathering policymakers, educators, and industry leaders to advance inclusive education and technological integration across East Africa.
The two-day conference, themed around expanding access to special education, features a comprehensive agenda designed to drive policy reform and accelerate the adoption of classroom-level technological solutions.
Opening the event in the institute’s Main Auditorium, leadership from KISE emphasized the critical role of institutional collaboration and technical innovation in creating accessible learning environments for learners with special needs.
A central highlight of the opening day includes a high-level keynote address titled “Advancing Disability Inclusion Through Assistive Technology,” which examines how emerging technological tools can bridge educational disparities in the region.
Delegates are also scheduled to convene for a panel discussion on “Inclusive Education Policy in East Africa,” focusing on regional policy alignment, resource sharing, and institutional frameworks to support specialized learning needs.
In addition to policy dialogues, the conference incorporates practical workshops detailing the application of assistive tools in everyday classroom settings, as well as an exhibition showcasing assistive technologies, learning devices, and institutional innovations.
According to the event schedule, the conference will continue Wednesday with sessions dedicated to innovation in special education, research presentations, and partner-led initiatives before concluding with a joint declaration on the way forward for regional educational inclusion.
