The Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) Director General , Esther Ngari EBS, participated in a high level meeting , on the fight against illicit alcohol, led by His Excellency the deputy President Prof Kithure Kindiki.
The Government is strengthening the fight through proposed legislative measures, enhanced coordination among regulatory and enforcement agencies, and a permanent mechanism bringing together State and national government agencies. These efforts aim to dismantle illicit alcohol and drug networks, strengthen enforcement and protect the public from dangerous, chemical-laced alcoholic drinks.
As part of these measures, traditional brews that meet the applicable Kenya Standards will be licensed, providing a pathway for compliant producers to operate within the regulatory framework. KEBS has standards for Opaque beers and traditional brews like Changaa.
KEBS remains committed to working with relevant agencies to uphold quality and safety standards, promote compliance and safeguard public health. Together, we can ensure that the products reaching consumers meet the required standards and protect the lives of Kenyans. ^FMA
