Kitui County, Kenya — The National Land Commission (NLC) this morning formally handed over the Second Commission’s Exit Report to His Excellency President Dr. William Ruto at State Lodge, Kitui County, marking the conclusion of the Commission’s term and the transfer of its work to the nation’s leadership.

The delegation was led by outgoing Chairperson Gershom Otachi and the Commissioners, accompanied by the Chief Executive Officer, CHRP Kabale Tache Arero.

During the handover, the Commission presented several key policy and research documents that highlight its achievements and provide a roadmap for the future of land governance in Kenya. Among the notable submissions were:

Kenya’s first-ever Natural Resource Atlas,

A research report on the effects of land fragmentation on food security,

The National Land Policy Recommendations Handbook,

The Guidelines on Land Investigations, and

The NLC 2024/2025 Annual Report.

The President commended the outgoing Commission for its dedication and tangible contributions toward resolving complex land issues, including land tenure security, public land management, and dispute resolution.

“The work accomplished by the outgoing Commission has laid a strong foundation for equitable and sustainable land governance across the country,” President Ruto said.

In her remarks, CEO CHRP Kabale Tache Arero expressed gratitude to the President for his unwavering support to the Commission, reaffirming NLC’s commitment to upholding transparency, accountability, and excellence in land administration.

“We are deeply honoured to have served under this mandate and to contribute meaningfully to Kenya’s land reform agenda. The legacy of this Commission will continue to shape a more just and sustainable land sector,” said Arero.

Present at the event were Cabinet Secretary for Lands, Public Works, Housing and Urban Development Hon. Alice Wahome, outgoing Vice-Chairperson Gertrude Nduku, Outgoing Commissioner Reginald Okumu, and Commissioners Hon. Tiyah Galgalo and Hon. Esther Murugi.
