H.E. Flora Mbetsa Chibule Hosts Parliamentary Committee to Advance Civic Access to Information
This afternoon, the Hon. Her Excellency the Deputy Governor of Kilifi County, Flora Mbetsa Chibule, hosted the National Assembly of Kenya Committee on Parliamentary Broadcasting and Library at the Governor’s Office. The delegation was led by Daniel Epuyo Nanok, as they champion a progressive agenda aimed at bringing Parliament closer to the people.
At the heart of the discussions was a transformative proposal to establish Parliamentary Corners within public libraries—an initiative that strongly aligns with Article 35 of the Constitution of Kenya, which guarantees every citizen the right to access information held by the State.
By integrating parliamentary resources into county library systems, the initiative seeks to expand access to legislative information, promote civic awareness, and empower citizens to actively participate in governance processes. It represents a significant step toward deepening democracy through knowledge and inclusivity.
The Kilifi County Government warmly welcomed the partnership and reaffirmed its commitment to supporting the rollout of these resource centres through the Department of Education and ICT. This collaboration underscores the County’s dedication to strengthening public engagement and fostering an informed society.
Indeed, as emphasized during the meeting, an informed citizenry remains the cornerstone of accountable leadership and sustainable development.
