Dr. Henry Rotich Commended for Advancing Scientific Excellence Through KEBS

NAIROBIDr. Henry Rotich has been widely commended for his outstanding leadership in promoting scientific excellence, innovation, and quality infrastructure after welcoming participants of the 9th African School of Physics to the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS) Metrology Department for a technical learning visit.

During the visit, Dr. Rotich highlighted the pivotal role of metrology—the science of measurement—in driving research, industrial innovation, technological advancement, and economic development. His commitment to exposing young scientists to world-class laboratories and practical experiments has been praised as a significant investment in nurturing Africa’s next generation of researchers and innovators.

As a key partner and sponsor of the programme, KEBS provided invaluable hands-on experience to more than 150 students, researchers, and educators, showcasing Kenya’s National Quality Infrastructure during the first-ever African School of Physics to be hosted in the country.

Stakeholders lauded Dr. Rotich for championing collaborations between KEBS, universities, research institutions, and international organizations, saying his efforts are strengthening Kenya’s position as a regional hub for scientific research, standards, and innovation. They noted that his leadership is making a meaningful contribution to the realization of *Kenya Vision 2030, the **African Union Agenda 2063, and the *Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The initiative has also earned praise from the Ministry of Investments, Trade and Industry, led by Cabinet Secretary Lee Kinyanjui, for reinforcing the critical role of standards, quality assurance, and scientific research in supporting industrialization, competitiveness, and sustainable economic transformation.
