Kabras Rally to Beat Oilers, Win Dala 7s and Go Top of National Circuit

Kabras Sugar produced a dominant second-half display to defeat Menengai Oilers 19-5 and lift the Dala Sevens title on Sunday, reclaiming top spot in the 2026 SportPesa National Sevens Circuit standings.

The Sugar Millers overturned a 5-0 halftime deficit with three unanswered tries to secure their first circuit title of the season in the second leg of the competition.

Derrick Ashihundu sparked the comeback with the opening try before youngster and Series MVP Rayvon Ambale crossed the whitewash and converted his own try to hand Kabras the lead. Fredrick Wangila sealed victory with the third try, which Michael Lukusi converted.

The win marked sweet revenge for Kabras, who had watched KCB claim the Dala Sevens title at their expense last year.

Kabras captain Mathias Osimbo said the team was determined to bounce back after narrowly missing out on the opening leg in Nakuru.

“We are very happy to have won here in Kisumu. We fell short in Nakuru after losing the final, but we knew we had what it takes to win here, and we are delighted with the result,” he said.

Harlequins Stun KCB

Kenya Harlequins produced one of the biggest upsets of the tournament by knocking defending circuit champions KCB out in the quarter-finals.

KCB, who had dominated the season-opening Prinsloo Sevens, struggled to replicate that form in Kisumu. A 19-19 pool-stage draw against MMUST hinted at their vulnerability before Harlequins ended their title defence. The Bankers eventually settled for fifth place after defeating Strathmore 24-17.

Harlequins, however, missed out on a podium finish after losing 27-22 to Mwamba in a thrilling third-place playoff decided in extra time. Captain Shaquel Bosire scored the decisive try to hand Mwamba third place.

Elsewhere,Mwamba Ladies completed a successful weekend for the club after edging Kenya Harlequins 10-7 in the Division One women’s final. A late try secured back-to-back Dala Sevens titles and the KES100,000 winners’ prize.

In Division Two, Catholic Monks earned promotion to Division One after beating Stallions 20-14 in the final. The champions pocketed KES70,000, while the runners-up received KES30,000.

SportPesa Head of Public Relations Willis Ojwang praised the competitiveness displayed during the tournament.

“Dala has delivered exactly the kind of rugby this circuit was built for—physical, unpredictable and highly competitive. Teams such as Harlequins and MMUST have shown the gap between the leading sides and the chasing pack is narrowing, which bodes well for the rest of the series,” he said.
