In a critical move to safeguard public health, the Pharmacy and Poisons Board (PPB) has announced the recall of ‘Sure’ condoms, Batch No. 2405055, manufactured by Indus Medicare Private Limited. The recall follows concerns raised by the company’s CEO, Fred Siyoi, who cited non-compliance with quality standards as the reason for the action. This development has prompted immediate responses from various stakeholders, including the Kenya Sex Workers Alliance (KESWA). In light of the recall, the Alliance is urging members and the broader Kenyan public to exercise heightened vigilance, particularly when engaging in sexual activity.”Sexual health is paramount, and the protection that condoms provide against sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and unplanned pregnancies is invaluable,” said a spokesperson from KESWA. The group has called on the public to ensure they use reliable and tested products for their safety. The recall serves as a reminder of the importance of stringent quality controls in health-related products and the critical role condoms play in promoting sexual well-being. As the recall process unfolds, authorities are urging consumers to check the batch numbers on their products and discontinue use of any affected condoms. Both the Pharmacy and Poisons Board and KESWA emphasize the importance of being proactive about sexual health, with the PPB pledging to continue monitoring the situation closely to ensure that such products do not compromise the public’s safety. As Kenya continues to prioritize public health, this incident underscores the need for consistent quality checks and consumer awareness in preventing health risks associated with substandard products.
