Manyatta MP Gitonga Mukunji Champions Youth Inclusion in Governance

By John Kariuki

Manyatta MP Gitonga Mukunji has reaffirmed his commitment to advocating for youth representation in governance, emphasizing the need for young people to have a seat at the decision-making table. Speaking at the Youth Inclusion Forum hosted by the Oslo Center at the Kenya School of Government, Lower Kabete Campus, Mukunji underscored the importance of empowering young leaders to shape the political future of Kenya.

“We must advocate and recognize the importance of young people in governance and political processes,” he stated. “It’s equally important to have a youth representative in the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to ensure inclusivity and fair representation.”

Mukunji expressed his dedication to nurturing emerging leaders, pledging to support the youth in realizing their political ambitions and making their way to Parliament. His remarks come at a time when youth inclusion in governance remains a crucial topic in Kenya’s democratic discourse.

The forum brought together key stakeholders committed to youth empowerment, including Linda Rode, Executive Director of the Oslo Center; Oliver Waindi, Executive Director of Uraia Trust; and Ms. Gloria Wawira, CEO of the National Youth Council. Their presence highlighted the collective effort needed to drive meaningful change in governance structures.

Mukunji’s advocacy aligns with the broader call for increased youth participation in leadership, ensuring that young voices are not just heard but actively shape policy and governance.
