Hon. Agnes Kagure has emerged as the leading choice for Nairobi residents in the latest Microtrack survey, commanding 26.3 percent of the vote. The poll, which sampled thousands of respondents across the capital, sought to determine who city residents would elect if an election were conducted today.
Kagure’s strong showing reflects her growing influence and popularity among ordinary Nairobians. Her hands-on approach to empowerment programs has struck a chord, particularly with youths, women, and vulnerable communities. Among her notable initiatives are food distribution programs for struggling families and support for needy boys and girls in the city’s informal settlements. Residents say her consistent focus on grassroots needs has made her stand out in a crowded political field.
Close on her heels is Embakasi North MP James Gakuya, who garnered 24 percent. Gakuya has built a reputation for defending low-income earners and hawkers against county harassment, while also pushing for bursaries, road networks, and development projects. His growing support suggests that Nairobians value leaders who address tangible everyday struggles.
Embakasi East MP Babu Owino ranked third with 20.7 percent. A vocal legislator, Owino has remained outspoken on pressing issues such as the recent Embakasi fire tragedy and unpopular county policies. His efforts in education, especially bursaries for students from humble backgrounds, continue to resonate with sections of the electorate.
Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja, however, fared poorly in the rankings, managing only 14 percent. A majority of respondents described his tenure as a failure, pointing to the eviction of hawkers, corruption allegations, absenteeism, and what they termed arrogance in leadership. The results indicate growing disillusionment with his administration, signaling a major political test for the governor.
Irungu Nyakera, who polled at 11 percent, was recognized for his work in promoting youth and women initiatives and improving education standards. While his base remains smaller compared to Kagure and Gakuya, he is seen as a rising voice in Nairobi politics. Meanwhile, 4 percent of respondents were undecided, saying they are waiting to see if new political entrants will emerge before making their choice.
The survey paints a clear picture of shifting political dynamics in Nairobi. With Hon. Agnes Kagure firmly in the lead, she has distinguished herself as a compassionate, visionary, and people-driven leader. Her dedication to uplifting the vulnerable and empowering communities demonstrates why she stands out as the better option for Nairobi’s future. For many residents, Kagure is not just a candidate, she is the hope of a new era of inclusive, accountable, and transformative leadership in the capital.
