Over 30,000 visitors and participants drawn from Kenya and across the world are expected to celebrate the culture, heritage, and sporting prowess at the 32nd edition of the Samburu Maralal International Camel Derby set to take place from the 25th to the 28th of September 2025, in Maralal.

This iconic event has grown to become a key driver of domestic tourism, drawing participation from across all the counties in the country, it is renowned for showcasing sports and culture, through the unique skills of camel riders, traditional music, and cultural ceremonies that highlight the rich traditions of the Samburu and other pastoralist communities.

The Cabinet Secretary Ministry of Tourism & Wildlife Rebecca Miano, said;

“The Samburu Maralal Camel Derby, has become one of the leading sports and culture events in the country. In the past the event has attracted a huge local and international audience, becoming one of the favorites on our calendar.”

“This festival provides a great platform to promote domestic tourism as we have seen participation from across the country, the festival showcases Kenya’s rich cultural diversity and sports. It is also a great platform to promote peace in the northern region, we invite you all to join us in this edition, to participate and experience this vibrant cultural festival.”

On his part, Governor Jonathan Lati Leleliit, gave an update on the festival, welcoming guests and participants to the festival.

“The Maralal International Camel Derby is a unique festival, I want to take this opportunity to welcome all Kenyans to the 32nd edition from the 25th – 28th of September 2025, we are ready to host you.”

“This year the derby is expected to attract over 30,000 local and international guests drawn from over 70 countries. This festival will profile the Northern tourism as a source of diversity in tourism offerings.”

“This festival seeks to enhance peace amongst the communities living in the region while, showcasing the security and safety in the region, guests planning to attend can be assured of their safety during the festivals.”

The four-day event will feature thrilling camel races, cultural performances, artisan markets, and traditional cuisine, making it an unforgettable experience for attendees. This year’s event promises to be bigger and more vibrant, fostering tourism and economic opportunities in the region.
