Amboseli, Kenya — The breathtaking landscapes of Amboseli came alive today as the Maa Cultural and Tourism Festival 2025 unfolded in a spectacular display of heritage, unity, and pride.
The festival, held under the theme “Promoting Maa Cultural Expressions for Socio-Economic Development,” showcased the vibrant traditions, artistry, and resilience of the Maa people. It underscored the pivotal role of culture as a living engine for social and economic growth across the country.
Speaking during the event, Cabinet Secretary for Tourism and Wildlife, Hon. Rebecca Miano, EGH, lauded the festival as a powerful testament to Kenya’s diverse cultural wealth and its potential to drive inclusive development.
“A community that celebrates its heritage will never become an endangered species. The spirit of resilience and pride is evident in every dance, every story, and every handcrafted item displayed here today,” said CS Miano.
The Cabinet Secretary extended heartfelt gratitude to His Excellency President Dr. William Samoei Ruto for his visionary leadership, commending his unwavering support for community-centered conservation and cultural empowerment.
A historic highlight of the day was the official transfer of the management of Amboseli National Park to the Kajiado County Government, a transformative move that reinforces the principle of local stewardship over national heritage.
“This monumental step ensures that the custodians of our invaluable natural heritage are its primary and rightful beneficiaries,” CS Miano noted. “It represents conservation for the people, by the people.”
The Cabinet Secretary further appreciated the host counties — Kajiado, Narok, and Samburu — for their collaboration in making the annual festival a resounding success.
She urged Kenyans to continue drawing inspiration from their diverse cultural roots and to harness this heritage as a catalyst for unity, innovation, and sustainable economic growth.
“Our culture is not merely a reflection of our past, but a foundation for our shared future,” she added.
As celebrations continue, the Ministry extended warm wishes and prayers for CS Rebecca Miano, expressing gratitude for her dedication and leadership, and praying for her continued good health, wisdom, and prosperity.
