The Kenya Institute of Special Education (KISE), under the leadership of Director General Dr. Norman Kiogora, is actively engaging counties to foster collaboration and improve services for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs).
Today, the County Government of Mandera held a consultative meeting at KISE to explore areas of partnership. The delegation was warmly received by Dr. Kiogora and Council Member Saida Ali, with discussions focusing on initiatives aimed at strengthening special needs education and disability inclusion.
Key areas of collaboration include:
- Training Early Childhood Development (ECD) teachers to become specialized educators,
- Enhancing assessment services for PWDs, and
- Providing sign language training to administrative staff.
The implementation of these initiatives is scheduled to begin in December 2025. This partnership is expected to make a significant impact by equipping educators, enhancing service delivery, and promoting the integration of PWDs within Mandera communities.
Speaking during the meeting, Dr. Norman Kiogora welcomed the collaboration, noting:
“We value partnerships with counties such as Mandera and encourage others to join hands with KISE. Special education is a critical pillar in ensuring inclusivity and empowering Persons with Disabilities across Kenya.”
The Mandera County delegation was led by the undersigned and accompanied by County Secretary Mr. Billow Issack Hassan.
The County Government of Mandera reaffirms its commitment to building an inclusive society where no one is left behind.
