Mwea Rice Farmers Fully Paid as Government Reaffirms Commitment to Local Production**
Mwea, Kirinyaga County — The Member of Parliament for Mwea, Hon. Mary Maingi, has confirmed that all locally produced rice delivered to the market has been fully taken up and that farmers have been paid in full, providing much-needed relief to producers across the constituency.
Hon. Maingi noted that this development follows her direct engagement with H.E. President William Samoei Ruto and a formal request she raised in Parliament seeking clarity on rice imports, domestic production levels, and concrete measures to safeguard farmers in rice-growing regions such as Mwea.
“The outcome is clear: farmers’ livelihoods are protected, payments are guaranteed, and local production remains a national priority,” she stated.
The Government has further committed to purchasing all paddy and milled rice offered for sale, with payments guaranteed within 30 days. Hon. Maingi described this as a critical step in strengthening farmer confidence, stabilizing incomes, and enhancing national food security.
She expressed her appreciation to President Ruto for honoring this commitment and reaffirmed her resolve to continue advocating for rice farmers.
“I will continue using every available platform to stand firmly with our rice farmers, protect local production, and strengthen food security in Mwea,” Hon. Maingi said.
