KISE Conducts Assistive Devices Outreach for Persons with Disabilities in Nandi County
Nandi County, Kenya
The Director General of the Kenya Institute of Special Education (KISE), Dr. Norman Kiogora, today led an outreach programme at the Ndalat Jobs Outreach for Persons with Physical Disabilities in Nandi County, aimed at supporting learners with disabilities through specialised assessments and the provision of assistive devices.
The outreach exercise focused on identifying the specific needs of learners with physical disabilities to enhance mobility, access to education, and overall quality of life. The programme is part of KISE’s ongoing efforts to advance inclusive education and disability support services across the country.
Dr. Kiogora was joined by Tinderet Member of Parliament, Hon. Julius Melly, and a KISE technical team comprising specialists conducting comprehensive assessments to determine appropriate assistive devices for each beneficiary.
Speaking during the engagement, Dr. Kiogora reaffirmed the Institute’s mandate as a national centre of excellence in special needs education and assistive technology.
“Through Government support and KISE’s national mandate, we continue to serve as a key production and coordination hub for assistive devices that empower persons with disabilities and promote inclusive learning environments across Kenya,” said Dr. Kiogora.
He noted that the outreach reflects the Government’s commitment to ensuring that no learner is left behind and that persons with disabilities are supported through tailored interventions that respond to their unique needs.
Local leaders and stakeholders welcomed the initiative, terming it timely and impactful in addressing barriers faced by learners with disabilities in accessing education and skills development opportunities.
KISE continues to work closely with national and county governments, development partners, and communities to strengthen inclusive education systems and expand access to assistive technologies nationwide.
