Nairobi Intensifies Citywide Clean-Up Drive Under “Safisha KaNairo” Campaign

The Nairobi County Government has intensified efforts to restore cleanliness and improve sanitation across the capital through the ongoing “Safisha KaNairo” campaign, targeting major waste hotspots in residential estates, markets, and informal settlements.

According to a press release issued on May 7, 2026, the initiative is being implemented through a coordinated partnership between Nairobi City County and sanitation stakeholders, including Zoomlion Kenya.

The campaign seeks to address growing waste accumulation while promoting public health and environmental sustainability across the city. County officials described the exercise as an urgent intervention aimed at restoring environmental dignity in densely populated areas affected by illegal dumping and poor waste management.

Ongoing clean-up and waste evacuation operations are currently taking place in several estates and public spaces across Dagoretti North, Kamukunji, Starehe, Kasarani, Embakasi East, Kibra, Ruaraka, and Mathare. Among the areas listed for the exercise are Borabora, Kawangware-Gitanga, Morale Road, Kinyango, CBD Market, Githwamba, Vumilia, Othaya Market, Korogocho Market, Huruma Grounds, and Huruma Flats. Additional operations are also ongoing in Dagoretti South and Embakasi South.

Health and sanitation experts involved in the campaign noted that effective waste management plays a critical role in reducing preventable diseases linked to poor sanitation and contaminated environments. Beyond the immediate clean-up, the initiative aims to encourage long-term environmental responsibility among residents and stakeholders.

The campaign has also called on residents to avoid illegal dumping and actively participate in community clean-up activities. Youth groups, environmentalists, and county governments have been encouraged to support sustainable recycling and waste-to-value initiatives to maintain cleaner urban centers. Organizers are urging the public and media to support the campaign online using the hashtags #
