Evelyn Kimathi Calls for Responsive Leadership, Economic Relief and National Unity

Dedan Kimathi Foundation Chief Executive Officer Evelyn Kimathi has called on the government to pay closer attention to the concerns of ordinary Kenyans, emphasizing the need for practical solutions to the economic and social challenges facing the country.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Ms. Kimathi said Kenyans are demanding efficient healthcare services, a lower cost of living, adequate funding for education, job creation, a conducive environment for businesses, fair taxation, and greater accountability from public leaders.

“The government must understand what Kenyans want in their country. Citizens are looking for health systems that work efficiently, affordable living, honored promises, quality education, employment opportunities and leadership that remains accountable to the people,” she said.

Ms. Kimathi noted that public engagement by leaders should be sincere and respectful, warning that approaches perceived as arrogant or dismissive only serve to heighten public frustration and fuel anger among citizens already grappling with economic hardships.

While acknowledging the difficult economic circumstances facing many households, she urged Kenyans to reflect on the consequences of recent protests, which have resulted in destruction of property, injuries and loss of lives.

“The economic situation is dire for many families and frustrations are understandable. However, we must carefully examine the impact of protests that end up causing more harm than good. We have witnessed criminal elements infiltrating demonstrations, destroying property, hurting innocent people and contributing to tragic loss of life,” she said.

Ms. Kimathi appealed for restraint, peaceful dialogue and national unity, stressing that sustainable solutions can only be achieved through constructive engagement among citizens, leaders and institutions.

She called on all stakeholders to work together in safeguarding Kenya’s peace and stability while continuing to pursue justice, accountability and better governance.

“Let us maintain peace and ensure that our country does not bleed more. As we seek solutions to our challenges, we must remain united in our commitment to building a stronger, more prosperous Kenya for future generations,” she said.
