It was all smiles as Defending SportPesa National Sevens Circuit champions KCB Rugby team after beating arch-rivals Kabras Sugar 19-12 to lift the Prinsloo Sevens trophy in Nakuru on Sunday.

KCB Snap 9-Year Prinsloo Drought, Edge Kabras to Launch Perfect National 7s Title Defence

Defending SportPesa National Sevens Circuit champions KCB Rugby kicked off their title defence in style, beating arch-rivals Kabras Sugar 19-12 to lift the Prinsloo Sevens trophy in Nakuru on Sunday.

It was KCB’s first Prinsloo title since 2017, ending a long wait and snatching the crown from last year’s winners, Strathmore Leos.

The final at a packed Nakuru Athletics Club started with Kabras on the front foot. Mike Lukusu touched down from the opening kickoff that KCB failed to gather, putting Kabras 5-0 up early.

But the Bankers hit back fast. Kenya 7s star George Ooro scored KCB’s first try and converted it himself to level things. From there, KCB took control.

Elvis Olukusi and Vincent Onyala both crossed the line, with KCB capitalizing on a yellow card to Kabras’ Jackson Lukeki. The two tries pushed KCB to a 19-5 lead at halftime.

Kabras weren’t done. Brian Mutua crashed over for a converted try to make it 19-12 and set up a tense final three minutes. But KCB’s defense held firm to seal the win and walk away with the Ksh 150,000 winners’ cheque ,Other Results*
It was also a big day for Division 1.

• Men: Zetech Oaks dominated Kabarak University 46-0 to take the title and Ksh 70,000.
• Women: Defending champions Mwamba Ladies were too strong for newcomers Kiambaa Ladies, winning 19-0 to claim Ksh 100,000.
  The circuit now heads to Nyanza. The Dala 7s is set for August 1-2 at Jomo Kenyatta Stadium, Mamboleo.
