Varan Beverages expand Kenya Flagship with launch of two new brand

By Fred Maingi
Varun Beverages has stepped up its expansion in Kenya with the launch of two new beverage brands as the company seeks to strengthen its position in the country’s increasingly competitive drinks market.

Through its Kenyan subsidiary, VBL Industries (Kenya) Limited, the company has introduced BOLT UP, an energy drink targeting young and active consumers, and XTREME FIZZ, a new carbonated soft drink aimed at a youthful market.

The two brands were unveiled at a partner event in Nairobi on Monday under the theme “The Next Wave.” The launch is part of VBL Kenya’s broader strategy to expand its product portfolio while investing in distribution, retail presence and brands designed to appeal to Kenyan consumers.

BOLT UP will give the company a foothold in Kenya’s energy-drink segment, an increasingly competitive category, while XTREME FIZZ will strengthen its presence in the carbonated soft-drinks market.

VBL Kenya said it plans to support the new products with expanded distribution and marketing activities across the country. The company will target both traditional retail outlets and modern trade, including wholesalers, neighbourhood shops, dukas and supermarkets.

In supermarkets and other modern retail outlets, the company plans to increase shelf and chiller visibility through displays, product sampling and shopper activations.
It will also use digital campaigns and youth-focused activities to create awareness and encourage consumers to try the new drinks.

Speaking at the launch, VBL Kenya CEO Ramen Paul said Kenya remains an important market in the company’s wider African growth ambitions.

“We are not here simply to introduce products; we are here to build a serious, long-term business,” Paul said.

He added that the company believes the combination of its organisational strength and partnerships in Kenya could create new opportunities for the two brands.

The expansion comes as VBL continues to grow its manufacturing and distribution footprint across Africa and other international markets.

Rather than focusing solely on individual product launches, VBL Kenya says it is also investing in distribution capacity and partnerships that can support the growth of its wider beverage portfolio.

The introduction of BOLT UP and XTREME FIZZ therefore marks another step in the company’s effort to establish a stronger and more diversified presence in Kenya’s beverage industry.

With the two brands targeting different but rapidly evolving you segments of the market, VBL Kenya will now look to build consumer awareness, secure retail visibility and expand distribution as it seeks to make the new products household names.
