Kenya, UNDP partner to bolster global trust, multilateral cooperation ahead of October summit

NAIROBI, March 17 (Xinhua) — Kenya’s State Department for Foreign Affairs and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Kenya have jointly hosted a diplomatic roundtable aimed at restoring global institutional trust and fostering multilateral cooperation ahead of a major governance summit scheduled for October.

​The high-level event, held in the capital city of Nairobi, brought together foreign mission representatives, diplomatic leaders, and heads of international development agencies to build actionable frameworks for sustainable governance.

​Addressing the delegates, Kenya’s Principal Secretary for Foreign Affairs Korir Sing’Oei stressed that trusted institutions and diplomatic credibility remain vital pillars for achieving sustainable national development.

​Sing’Oei noted that international partnerships can only flourish when grounded in transparency, consistent service delivery, and mutual accountability.

​Participants at the forum highlighted that declining institutional confidence continues to hinder global cooperation. They called for aligning international development aid and multilateral policies with domestic governance reforms to build resilient, equitable systems.

​UNDP officials underscored that institutional integrity and public trust serve as essential prerequisites for advancing the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

​Discussions focused on strategies for foreign missions and international organizations to assist host nations in enhancing open government practices and expanding inclusive public participation.

​The co-conveners reaffirmed their commitment to establishing Nairobi as a premier hub for international governance dialogue, laying the groundwork for concrete transparency agreements expected to be adopted at the upcoming flagship summit in October.
