Njoro MP Charity Kathambi Advances Rural Electrification Agenda with Last-Mile Power Project in Mau Narok

Njoro Member of Parliament Charity Kathambi has reaffirmed her commitment to improving access to electricity and accelerating grassroots development after addressing residents of Kahuho village in Mau Narok Ward following the launch of a Last Mile Electricity Programme in the area.

The legislator met residents in the evening, using the engagement to connect the ongoing electrification initiative with the broader development needs of the community.

The Last Mile Electricity Programme seeks to extend electricity connectivity to households and other establishments that remain beyond the reach of existing power infrastructure, helping rural communities access reliable energy for domestic and economic activities.

For residents of Kahuho village, the initiative represents an opportunity to improve living standards, enhance security and create an enabling environment for small businesses and other income-generating ventures.

Electricity access remains an important driver of rural transformation, with reliable power helping households improve their daily routines while enabling traders, artisans and entrepreneurs to expand their operations.

For families, electricity can provide better lighting for children studying at home, improve access to information and reduce dependence on traditional sources of lighting. For businesses, it can support the use of equipment, extend operating hours and create opportunities for increased productivity.

Kathambi’s engagement with residents following the launch also provided an opportunity to interact directly with the community and discuss the significance of bringing essential infrastructure closer to households.

The electrification initiative aligns with the broader development objective of ensuring that rural communities benefit from infrastructure investments that improve livelihoods and support economic inclusion.

In agricultural areas such as Mau Narok, improved electricity connectivity can also create opportunities for value addition, produce preservation and the development of enterprises serving the farming community, depending on the availability of complementary infrastructure and services.

The Last Mile Electricity Programme is particularly important in communities where distance from existing power lines and the cost of extending connectivity can present challenges for households seeking access to electricity.

By extending the electricity network to more homes, the programme can help bridge infrastructure gaps between rural and urban areas while supporting the growth of local enterprises.

Kathambi’s visit to Kahuho village underscores the importance of combining infrastructure development with direct public engagement to ensure that community priorities remain part of the development conversation.

As the project progresses, residents will be looking forward to the benefits that electricity connectivity can bring to their homes, businesses and wider community.

The initiative adds to the ongoing focus on expanding essential services and improving infrastructure in rural areas, where access to reliable power can make a significant difference in education, enterprise development and household welfare.

For Kahuho village and the wider Mau Narok Ward, the Last Mile Electricity Programme offers an opportunity to strengthen the foundations for local development and create better conditions for families and businesses to thrive.
