Why Ruiru Residents Could Back Simon King’ara for a Third Term
Education investment, bursary support, classroom expansion, road rehabilitation and youth empowerment are among the development priorities shaping discussions about the Ruiru MP’s record ahead of the 2027 General Election.
As Ruiru Constituency prepares for the 2027 General Election, the development record of area MP Simon Ng’ang’a King’ara is likely to feature prominently in conversations about the constituency’s political future.
King’ara, who is serving his second term, has pursued an agenda centred on education support, school infrastructure, road improvements and access to opportunities for young people. These interventions address some of the pressing needs in Ruiru, one of Kiambu County’s rapidly growing urban constituencies.
Whether voters ultimately award him a third term will depend on their assessment of his performance, the needs that remain unmet and the alternatives presented by other candidates. However, documented projects and funding initiatives provide a basis for examining the record he could present to residents.
1. Education funding that reaches thousands of families
Education support is among the most visible components of King’ara’s constituency development programme.
In May 2026, the MP oversaw the disbursement of KSh132 million in National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF) bursaries to more than 17,000 students in secondary schools, technical and vocational institutions, colleges and universities. The funding was intended to help families meet education costs and keep learners in school.
The allocation followed an earlier expansion of bursary support. In July 2024, King’ara announced KSh90 million for approximately 40,000 needy students, illustrating the scale of demand for education assistance in the constituency.
For households struggling with school fees, such assistance can make a practical difference. Parents who might otherwise have to borrow money, sell assets or delay other essential expenses can receive some relief.
However, demand for bursaries remains considerable, highlighting the challenge of balancing education support with other development priorities. The political significance is twofold: bursaries provide direct assistance to beneficiaries, while the continuing pressure on available funds leaves room for residents to demand wider coverage and more equitable allocations.
2. Expanding classrooms to accommodate Ruiru’s growing population
School infrastructure is another major component of King’ara’s development record, reflecting the pressure that population growth has placed on public learning institutions.
In November 2025, reports indicated that 16 new classrooms had been completed at Mwiki Primary School through collaboration involving the constituency and the Ministry of Education. The additional facilities were intended to provide more learning space, particularly as schools adjusted to the Competency-Based Curriculum.
In August 2026, the Kenya News Agency reported the completion of two additional classrooms at Mutuya Primary School, funded through the local NG-CDF. The project was intended to reduce pressure on existing facilities and improve the learning environment.
The constituency has also pursued other school development projects, including developments at Mutuya Primary School, Manguo Primary School, Mwihoko Secondary School and Kwangethe Secondary School.
These projects matter in a constituency where housing developments and population growth continue to increase demand for classrooms, sanitation facilities and other essential school infrastructure.
For parents, the practical measure of success will be whether the investments translate into less cong…
