Bishop Margaret Wanjiru Visits Eastleigh Building Collapse Site, Calls for County Leadership
Incoming Nairobi Governor on the Kenya Moja Movement Party ticket, Bishop Margaret Wanjiru, has visited the site of the collapsed building in Eastleigh, where she prayed with affected families and offered them words of encouragement as rescue operations continued.
During the visit, Wanjiru expressed solidarity with families anxiously awaiting the safe retrieval of their loved ones, urging them to remain hopeful during the difficult and uncertain period.
The bishop’s visit brought a message of compassion and spiritual support to families grappling with the tragedy, as emergency responders continued efforts at the scene.
Wanjiru also commended emergency response teams, security officers and the Kenya Red Cross for their efforts in responding to the incident and assisting those affected.
She acknowledged the critical role played by rescue personnel working under challenging circumstances to reach those who may still be trapped beneath the rubble.
However, she called on the Nairobi County Government to demonstrate leadership and ensure that the situation receives the attention and coordination it requires.
“The county government must show leadership,” she said, underscoring the importance of decisive action and effective coordination in responding to emergencies of this nature.
Her remarks highlight the need for county authorities to work closely with national government agencies, emergency responders and humanitarian organisations to support rescue operations and affected families.
Beyond the immediate rescue efforts, the incident has also renewed attention on building safety, emergency preparedness and the responsibility of authorities to protect residents from preventable disasters.
As rescue teams continue their work, affected families remain at the centre of the response, with their need for timely information, emotional support and assistance remaining paramount.
Wanjiru’s visit reflects her appeal for compassion, accountability and effective leadership during a moment of distress for the affected families and the wider Eastleigh community.
She urged authorities to ensure that all necessary support is mobilised as efforts continue to locate and safely retrieve those affected by the building collapse.
