The Wiper Patriotic Front has officially nominated its party leader, Dr. Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka, as its presidential candidate for the 2027 General Election, signaling the start of a renewed opposition challenge against President William Ruto’s administration.

The endorsement took place on Thursday during the Wiper National Delegates Conference (NDC) at Uhuru Park, Nairobi, drawing thousands of delegates, supporters, and allied leaders who rallied behind Kalonzo’s bid for the top seat.

In an impassioned acceptance speech, Kalonzo vowed to lead what he termed a “revolution of hope”, pledging to rebuild Kenya’s economy, restore integrity in governance, and unite the nation under a “Patriotic Administration.”

“With a deep sense of duty and high resolve, I accept your nomination to be your presidential candidate for the 2027 General Election,” Kalonzo declared. “We must reclaim our country, rebuild our economy, and restore dignity to every household.”
Kalonzo launched a scathing attack on President Ruto’s government, accusing it of “taxation without development”, corruption, and economic mismanagement that he said has worsened the cost of living.

“This is not taxation for development; it is taxation for the survival of a few who know Ruto,” he told cheering supporters.
The former Vice President outlined his reform agenda, promising to lower fuel and electricity costs, revive industries, and create jobs for young people. He further pledged to deliver affordable education and healthcare, end police brutality, and protect civil liberties across the country.
The rally was attended by several prominent opposition figures, including Hon. Martha Karua, Hon. Eugene Wamalwa, Hon. Rigathi Gachagua, and Speaker Emeritus Justin Muturi, underscoring the growing momentum around Kalonzo’s presidential bid.

“The Wiper Patriotic Front is ready. The united coalition is ready. The time is now to Komboa Kenya and end the Ruto disaster,” Kalonzo declared, as the crowd erupted into chants of “Wantam! Komboa Kenya!”

Kalonzo’s nomination firmly places him among the frontline opposition contenders in the race to succeed President Ruto in 2027, as efforts intensify to consolidate the Azimio coalition ahead of the polls.
