UDA dismisses opposition claims on fuel crisis as misleading

The United Democratic Alliance (UDA) has dismissed claims by the opposition regarding the current fuel situation, terming them misleading and politically driven.
Speaking at the party headquarters in Nairobi on Thursday, April 16, 2026, UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar accused opposition leaders of misrepresenting facts about fuel prices and the government’s response.
Omar said the opposition’s recent press briefing was “deceptive and calculated,” arguing that it did not reflect the realities of the global energy market.
“The attention of UDA has been drawn to a rather misleading media briefing by the opposition. Much of what was presented was inaccurate and a misrepresentation of the true situation,” he said.
He maintained that the government has been implementing measures to cushion consumers from rising costs of imported fuel, noting that price fluctuations are largely influenced by global market dynamics.
Omar further criticized the opposition for what he described as spreading falsehoods on how fuel pricing is managed, insisting that the government remains committed to stabilizing the sector and protecting consumers.
The remarks come amid ongoing public concern over fuel prices, which have continued to rise in recent months.
