PHNOM PENH, Aug. 3 (Xinhua) — Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Wednesday made clear here China’s solemn position on Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi’s visit to China’s Taiwan region.
Wang, who is attending meetings on East Asia cooperation and on a visit to Cambodia, told reporters that Pelosi’s tour is a complete farce.
Wang said the U.S. side, under the guise of so-called “democracy,” is doing the heinous deeds of violating China’s sovereignty.
Such “Taiwan independence” secessionist forces represented by Tsai Ing-wen, riding the U.S. coattails, have betrayed the righteousness of the great national cause, said Wang.
These perverse practices will not change the international consensus that there is only one China, nor will they change the historical trend that Taiwan will return to the motherland, Wang said.
Those who play with fire will not end up well, and those who violate China’s sovereignty will certainly be penalized, he added. ■
BEIJING, Aug. 3 (Xinhua) — China’s countermeasures against Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan will be resolute, strong, and effective, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said on Wednesday.
Spokesperson Hua Chunying told a daily press briefing in response to relevant queries that China will take all necessary measures to safeguard its sovereignty and territorial integrity. All consequences arising therefrom shall be borne by the U.S. side and “Taiwan independence” separatist forces.
Looking back on the past, the spokesperson stressed that every provocation the United States made against China embarrassed itself.
Hua said the latest example is that Pelosi and others incited violence in Hong Kong and advocated the so-called “beautiful scenery.” However, they just accelerated Hong Kong’s transition from chaos to stability and prosperity and made the Oriental Pearl shine again.
When asked for comment about U.S. officials trying to justify Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan and even to shift blame, Hua pointed out that those officials are trying their best to make excuses and accusations. It reflects the lack of credibility, knowledge about history, and self-reflection on the part of the U.S. government.
In history, the Taiwan question was once the biggest obstacle in normalizing China-U.S. relations, Hua said, noting that’s because China firmly adheres to the one-China principle and makes no compromise or concession on the Taiwan question.
She said that in 1971, the United States affirmed to China the new principles it would follow regarding the Taiwan question. They include: the United States would acknowledge that there is only one China in the world and Taiwan is a part of China; the United States would not repeat the phrase that the status of Taiwan is undetermined; the United States did not support and would not support movements for “Taiwan independence.”
The U.S. side explicitly declared in the Shanghai Communique released in 1972 that “the United States acknowledges that all Chinese on either side of the Taiwan Strait maintain there is but one China and that Taiwan is a part of China. The United States Government does not challenge that position.” The afore-mentioned commitments made by the U.S. side started the process toward normalization of China-U.S. relations, Hua said.
She also mentioned the Joint Communique on the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between the United States of America and the People’s Republic of China released in 1978 and the August 17 Joint Communique of 1982, demonstrating the commitments made by the U.S. side is clear and inked in the documents.
However, in recent years, the U.S. side constantly distorts, obscures, and hollows out the one-China principle. It also brazenly seeks to upgrade U.S.-Taiwan relations and emboldens “Taiwan independence” separatist activities, Hua said.
She noted that the U.S. government was supposed to rein in the attempt to visit Taiwan by the third highest ranking member of the U.S. government. However, the U.S. government has connived at this provocation. This is the root cause and truth behind the tensions in the Taiwan Strait.
Over the past few days, many leaders around the world and people from different walks of life have voiced their opposition to the visit. The spokesperson of the UN Secretary-General has just said that the UN will continue to adhere to the UNGA Resolution 2758 and uphold the one-China principle, which shows that justice prevails among the people, said Hua.
The position of the Chinese government and people on the Taiwan question has been consistent. Resolutely safeguarding China’s sovereignty and territorial integrity is the firm will of the more than 1.4 billion Chinese people. No country, force or individual shall misestimate the firm resolve, strong will and great capability of the Chinese government and people to defend state sovereignty and territorial integrity and to achieve national reunification and rejuvenation, said the spokesperson. ■

East Africa Data Handlers Services Limited through George Kariuki Njoroge has further been sued by the same Aworky General Supplies Limited for ordering office furniture and other goods worth the sum of Kenya Shillings Two Hundred and Five Thousand but later failing to pay for the delivered goods .
A new opinion poll has put Deputy President William Ruto as the most preferred presidential candidate for the August elections.
According to Intel Research Solutions (IRS) CEO Karen Mwangi, the pair of William Ruto and Gachagua Rigathi would garner 53.1 percent of the votes if elections were held today.
Raila Odinga and Martha Karua would garner 42.7 percent of the votes cast.
George Wajackoyah and Justina Wamae polled 1.2 percent while David Waihiga polled 0.2 percent if the elections were held today.
The scientific research was conducted between 23-28 July 2022 with a sample size of 29,857 respondents across 47 counties.
The research polled the IRS database for respondents via SMS.
DP Ruto has consistently led the previous three polls conducted by the research firm.
