Kalonzo Musyoka Accuses Ruto’s Government of State-Sponsored Killings, Calls for Immediate Probe

By John Kariuki

Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has made a damning accusation against President William Ruto’s administration, alleging state-sponsored killings and enforced disappearances. Speaking earlier today after meeting the families of Martin Mwau and Justus Mutmwa, Musyoka condemned the government for what he termed as cold-blooded assassinations.

Mwau and Mutmwa were among four men abducted from Mlolongo between December 16 and 17. Their bodies have since been recovered, confirming fears of extrajudicial executions. However, Bernard Mbisi Kavingo and Karani Muema remain missing, and their desperate families are pleading for answers—are their loved ones dead or alive?

Kalonzo did not mince his words, calling out President Ruto’s government as a criminal and gangster regime that has disregarded the rule of law. “The truth is, Martin and Justus were abducted and killed. Their families demand justice,” he said, adding that Kenya is slipping into a dangerous era of state terror and impunity.

The disappearances and killings have sparked nationwide outrage, with over 20,000 Kenyans signing a petition in June last year, demanding the formation of a Commission of Inquiry. Kalonzo insists that the commission must be set up immediately to investigate the killings and forced disappearances.

Kalonzo further called on the Law Society of Kenya (LSK) to step in, arguing that President Ruto cannot be trusted to oversee the probe as he is an interested party. He urged LSK and other legal bodies to take charge of forming the Commission, ensuring a fair and independent investigation into the disappearances.

This latest development adds to growing concerns over rising cases of extrajudicial killings, with human rights organizations raising alarms over the systematic targeting of activists, journalists, and opposition figures.

As pressure mounts, the big question remains: Will the government take responsibility, or will more Kenyans continue to disappear without a trace?
